The Repair Shop
|
Ex West Ham keeper Peter Grotier turned up on tonight's episode with a program for an exhibition match he played in, alongside Bobby Moore and against a team that included Pele.
The program was in tatters when he brought it in but they did an amazing job on it.

After losing his first team place at West Ham to Mervyn Day,Grotier went on loan to Lincoln City whose manager Graham Taylor asked the Hammers to make the deal permanent. Greenwood insisted on a 20 grand fee which Taylor persuaded his fans to raise as he was skint. True story.

There was a period when Peter Grotier had a run in the side that he would look to roll the ball out short to a defender. With the crowd on the North Bank nervous of this tactic they would holler for him to kick it long. No idea whether this was Grotier’s own initiative or if he was under orders from Ron Greenwood. As we know though, playing out from the back is 100% a modern concept invented by Mr Pep.

Nothing not to like with the show, nice to see certain craftsmanship hasn’t died out, and Suzy the leather looks like a saucy minx.

Just watched it, brilliant. Never knew of this fixture, but what a thing to be in the same side as Bobby and to play against Pele.

Solid bond you are dead inside lol...but have good taste in music so not all bad ( swtoc)
I'd be balling my eyes out if I had something repaired that was given to me by a loved one who''d passed on, or was a cherished childhood memory
Don't watch it regularly but enjoy it when I do......plus Will.Kirk is quite the hotty.

Re: The Repair Shop

I sold one of these just last week on eBay for £123. The programme I sold was in good condition but it comes up fairly frequently and it's one of the easier West Ham in USA games from that era so £100-£150 is about what I expected
Of course its significance to Peter Grotier and his family would far outweigh all that and the Pele signature was obviously signed by Pele himself (rather than someone in his office like most "Pele" signatures)
The paper of this programme is fairly thick and strong so may explain why the techniques used were suitable (putting it in a water bath - **gulp**)
